A rise in demand for animal feed from increasingly prosperous populations in India and China, the use of more land and agricultural produce for biofuels, continued population growth, and climate change reducing harvests are among the most significant trends straining the world’s food supply and creating skyrocketing food prices. Further compounding the supply issue is the complex challenge of ensuring the quality and safety of food in a globalized food supply chain.
